What are the Travel requirements to and from Puerto Rico?
US Citizens do not need a passport for travel to and from Puerto Rico. However, you must have some form of government ID with a picture on it (such as a drivers license). On leaving, your baggage must pass through an Agriculture inspection prior to being accepted by the airline. This is completed at the airport and takes just a few minutes. Do not bring back any fruits, vegetables, meats, etc. For much more detailed information go to http://www.topuertorico.org/tinfo.shtmlt

Do I need a car in Puerto Rico?
It really depends on if you will need to visit places outside of the tourist zone (Old San Juan, Condado, Ocean Park or Isla Verde). Most tour operators have door to door service for thier tours. A bus 3 blocks from our location, the C-53, will take you to Old San Juan, Isla Verde or Condado. We have bicycles for free check out that you can use for the week. And a taxi from the airport is approximately $10 to $12, depending on baggage and the number of people. There is also a bus from the airport (you must transfer). If you are not used to driving in Puerto Rico then I highly recommend paying extra for the GPS maps for your rental car and obtaining the full insurance policies. If you do rent a car, try Charlies car rental for the best pricing. Our location has 1 off street parking spot that is first come first serve. Or there is free parking on the street.

Do you provide transportation from the airport or cruise terminals? If not, what is the cost for transportation?
We do not provide transportation from the airport. However, we are a short taxi ride from the airport (about $12 for up to 5 persons). Or you may take the buses B40 or C45 from the airport, then transfer to the A5 or C53 to arrive at our location. From the cruise terminals you would take the A5 or C53 (catch the bus at the main terminal across from the cruise terminals) for a direct trip to us.

We like to travel with our dog. Do you allow pets and is there any extra charge?
We are pet friendly and we do allow certain pets. Please contact us ahead of time to ensure that your breed will be welcomed. We provide doggie bowls. There is a park close by and dogs are allowed on the beaches (with a leash and must be cleaned up after). We do typically charge a $10 per night fee for dogs or $50 per trip, whichever is less, to assist with the additional cleaning. We waive this fee for repeat guests.

We are looking for a green, eco friendly vacation. What does Coqui Del Mar offer?
We are striving to reduce our impact on planet earth and believe a guest house can be green friendly. We currently utilize only solar from the Puerto Rico sun for our hot water, we provide recycling bins in each unit for glass, plastic and aluminum, and have recently installed a rain cistern so that rain water is now used for all outside watering. In addition we provide ceiling fans in each room to supplement air conditioning, we utilize Energy Star washer and dryer, and are in the process of replacing all refrigerators and A/C units with Energy Star models as they expire. Lastly, we use green friendly cleaning products when able. If you have any further suggestions please let us know.

I have special dietary needs - Will you accommodate?
We do not provide breakfast. We do provide enough coffee and coffee essentials for your first morning. There is a convenience store approximately 2 blocks from us, and a full grocery store 5 blocks (very local/traditional) or 3/4 mile (more tourist/local).

I want to learn Kite Boarding or further my kite boarding skills. What do you offer?
We are at the heart of the kite boarding destinations for Puerto Rico, yet convenient to the San Juan attractions. We have packages available and agreements with local instructors. You can easily walk from our location to your lesson, or launch your equipment from less than a block of our guest house.

What should I expect from your guest house? I usually stay at the Marriot or Hilton.
We are NOT comparable to a large hotel. We are small, intimate, quirky, and for the budget minded traveler that does not want a cookie cutter vacation. You will not find chain restaurants near our location, nor will you be one of hundreds of foreign tourists on our beaches. We maintain a clean, comfortable, affordable vacation in Puerto Rico for you in a neighborhood setting. There are many local restaurants to choose from, and our beaches are quieter and frequented by guests from other guest houses and from locals.
